The Guitar Diaries by guitarist Stefan Rosqvist is a compelling instrumental record that conveys a wide range of musical emotions and moods — just like a diary. This collection of songs stretches from jazz ("Decision") and mellow jams ("UPS") to shred ("Mr. Agfog") and pop ("Singlemalt"). Using an array of musicians who've worked with the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Darkane, Rosqvist writes and plays with immense dexterity and patience. Don't listen for flashiness here, because the man relies on the songs — and not the style — to carry The Guitar Diaries.
On a related note, this apparently is the final release by the UK's Liquid Note Records. It's always sad when a label dies, but at least LNR goes out with a flurry of positive notes.
