Florida Metalcore band, EkoTren's first full length CD, Light The Fire (Blind Prophecy Records) is a statement in the post Nu School Metal world with a firm grasp into the cluttered Hardcore/Metalcore genre. From slugging in out in Florida,EkoTren have managed to carve out their own niche and be fairly original within the cookie cutter, "all sound the same" mentality.
Light The Fire is an 11 song CD that, as mentioned before, shows some originality while also not being afraid of the use of the dreaded word..."melody". Heavy and in your face, Light The Fire opens with the title track that is a straight ahead Metalcore grinder that is the true essence of EkoTren, but with more complex songs like "Tables Have Turned", "Tranqualized" and "Nothing Less", these guys show off some nice songwriting chops.
Disturbed meets Breaking Benjamin meets Hatebreed is what I hear in EkoTren. A chunky, de-tuned melodic groove of a rhythm section, with catchy hooks and choruses that never border on being stupid or "lame". Part familiar and part refreshingly new, you can see why these guys became Florida club favorites.
With their angry, melodic vocal style over heavy and grooving riffing, Light The Fire is a pretty solid debut CD.
