Thine Eyes Bleed: Thine Eyes Bleed

Canada's Thine Eyes Bleed follow up 2005's In the Wake of Separation with the self-titled Thine Eyes Bleed for The End Records. Falling somewhere between melodic death metal, thrash, and a touch of 'core, Thine Eyes Bleed certainly throw plenty of barb-wire riffage and ferocious growls at the listener, very evident on tracks such as "The Dragon", "Crimson", and "Shallow Skin". When the band slows down a bit, throws in some grooves and breakdowns, as on "Dark White", things take a more modern slant into metalcore territory, which they do pretty well, but let's face it, there's enough of that type of stuff out there already. Frankly, this band seems to want to go down a path already blazed by Lamb of God, and while that's all fine and dandy (let's face it, these guys really hone in on the As the Palaces Burn sound on songs like "The Mouth of Hell" and "In Mortal Sin"), in the end I'd rather hear Lamb of God do their thing and hear Thine Eyes Bleed give me something truly from the heart. The talent is all here though (check out the extreme progressive metal of "Revert to Stone" for some truly impressive complex metal), so if these guys can just let a little originality flow through, we could be looking at a monster act in years to come.
