Anal Stench: Red Revolution

The death metal gears of Poland's Anal Stench are driven by various members of such Polish metal outfits as Decapitated, Thy Disease and the pleasantly named Virgin Snatch. Their second full length album Red Revolution was originally issued in their native country back in 2004 but has recently been reissued by the folks over at Metal Mind Productions. The artwork and lyrics on Red Revolution are pretty much centered on one thing, communism. However, it's the brutal, massive assault of ultra- heavy guitar riffage, typical guttural style vocals and frantic double bass drumming that really grabs the listener's attention. Unlike the majority of bands in this genre though, Anal Stench succeeds primarily by displaying an abundance of memorable, melodic sounding riffs. While the guitar solos are somewhat minimal and not that technically challenging, they serve the songs first and foremost. Another thing which separates Anal Stench from the pack somewhat, are the grooves themself which go quite a bit deeper rhythmically that what you'd expect from your average death metal band. Clocking in at slightly over thirty five minutes, Red Revolution is a solidly produced effort worthy of addition into any serious death metal fan's collection.
