The name of this band, along with the title of its third album and songs like "Dragonhelm," "Metal From Hellas," "Warlord of Mars" and "Death Before Disgrace," pretty much say it all. But pressed to provide more details about the latest album of heroic traditional/power metal from Greek warriors Battleroar, it's safe to say these guys live and die (at least musically) by the sword. The band does slow down the pace on "Finis Mundi," which leans more toward folk-metal, and the 10-and-a-half-minute "Oceans of Pain" reveals multiple sides of Battleroar's musical personality — including a soft spot for traditional metal bands like Omen and Jag Panzer. Battleroar isn't as over-the-top as some of its peers, and the musicianship is a notch or two tighter on these guys' studded belts. But for the most part, To Death and Beyond… is exactly what it appears to be.
