Orgone: The Goliath

Conventional isn't really a word you would associate in any way with the music and themes covered on the self financed debut The Goliath from Pennsylvania based outfit Orgone. Thematically this disc is described by the band themselves as being loosely based upon a schoolteacher who is caught up in his day to day negative existence and how he undergoes both a physical and psychological transformation in order to really connect with himself. Ok so that's not necessarily hard to relate to, however the plot thickens somewhat when you get your first look at the abstract lyrics included in the liner notes, penned by guitarist Stephen Jarrett and vocalist Christian Senrud. Then there's the actual music, which is a merciless onslaught of sheer technical brilliance, at least as far as Jarrett's guitar work is concerned. In many ways his style is representative and rooted in the early players of the extreme math metal movement. When you couple that with the multitude of tempo changes, a staggering array of pummeling blast beats, and Senrud's throat shredding vocals on these chorus free tracks, you come to the realization that Orgone's sound is quite unique, and anything but predictable. Fans of extreme metal will appreciate what Orgone is going for on this brutally intense and superbly crafted opening statement.
