Wildildlife: Six

Prepare yourself for the all out freak out of San Francisco's Wildildlife, one of the most recent additions to Crucial Blast's already impressive and growing roster of diverse musical talent. Described as purveyors of Psychedelic Sludge their debut effort Six definitely finds this trio indulging fairly heavily into the lysergic acid. However don't expect any mellow astral travel shit here because Wildildlife's aim is to pummel the listener into submission through layers of heavy and often dissonant guitar riffs along with plenty of weird sonic meanderings that unfortunately don't always work. For example the longer tracks "Magic Jordan" (18:15), "Kross" (14:02) and "Nervous Buzzing" (13:53) make up almost 70% of Six, and yet these lengthy songs fail to really take the listener anywhere. Out of the three I'd have to say that "Magic Jordan" does offer more in the way of actual music, while the other two just come across as cacophonous noise. Maybe I'm missing something but overall Six just comes off as a really bad trip.
