The self proclaimed hardest working band to come out of Chambersburg Pennsylvania is an energetic quintet known as The Shackeltons. Named after polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackelton these musicians proudly wear their influences on their sleeves for all to hear on their debut disc. The rhythm section thrives through the tightly executed arrangements and the twin assault of guitarists Eric Fisak and Daniel Schuchman explode with a jagged sense of urgency throughout, while vocalist Mark Redding sings/ shouts with a commendable amount of garage band angst. It all comes together perfectly on this eleven song collection of melodic and often catchy ("Your Movement", "The Breaks", "Bloke") tracks. While many new indie bands spend too much time searching for their own identities, The Shackeltons certainly sound like either they licked that problem a long time ago or it was never a concern in the first place. For such a relatively young band (formed in 2005) these guys have certainly crafted a solidly written, mature debut effort that clearly proves that they showed up with their musical vision already mapped out well in advance.
