Raxa: Oxlahun Ti Ku

Here's an interesting combination for you; Raxa is a doom metal / ethnic ambient project from Russia, performed in it's entirety by a gentleman who goes by the name of Lefthander. However that's only part of what really makes this disc entitled Oxlahun Ti Ku (Underground Supreme War) such an intriguing listen, because all the lyrics are sung in the ancient native tongue of the Aztecs!

Lefthander really does a great job here creating a diverse album full of cold almost mechanical sounding guitars and electronic percussion, evil growling style vocals and counterbalancing that with plenty of nicely executed ambient passages to add further depth to the already layered atmospherics. If you're able to get over the whole Aztec language barrier then I'm sure you'll find that Oxlahun Ti Ku is a wonderfully varied and somewhat unique listening experience that won't disappoint.
