If this 3 song demo is any indication, we might be seeing the next progressive metal rookies in Quebec's Shard Villa. With lengthy tracks filled with high pitched, Geoff Tate-inspired vocals, tons of shred guitar, keyboards, intricate drum & bass rhythms, and plenty of complex song arrangements, these guys take obvious influences like Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Steve Vai, Dragonforce, Queensryche, ELP, Anglagard, Return to Forever, Yes, Rush, Racer X, and Rainbow, throw it all into a blender, and out comes a pretty exciting listen. The band is comprised of Rush Gainey (Vocals), Jason Whalon (Guitar), Sébastien Ménard-Dumont (Drums), Krype Malisque (Keyboard), and Aram Bedrosian (Bass), all extremely capable players in their own right who get plenty of room to shine on this 25 minute demo. It's pretty easy to assume after checking out the promise contained on this CD that a major prog-metal label will be scooping these guys up pretty quickly (Sensory, InsideOut, ProgRock, Nightmare, Magna Carta...I'm talking to you!) in the very near future. With a full length release and a top notch producer behind them, we might be hearing a lot from Shard Villa in the years to come.
