Aetherius Obscuritas: Víziók

The seeds of hate run pretty deep in Hungary judging by this seething display of potent black metal entitled Víziók (Visions) by Aetherius Obscuritas. This fourth full length release by sole band member Arkhorrl is an unrelenting and vitriolic maelstrom full of lethal black metal majesty. Arkhorrl snarls his way through track after track with very little concern for atmospherics (save for the acoustic interlude "Who Never Really Left") or anything less than breakneck riffage and ultra fast tempos, which are laid down here courtesy of guest drummer Sudden Death. The lyrics are sung in both the native tongue of Hungarian and English, and for a real treat check out "The Lockless Door" in which Arkhorrl sets the words of poet Robert Frost on fire with an absolutely blistering and venomous attack. Trust me you could never have envisioned sitting in English class and hearing Frosts' poetic verse defiled so eloquently and with such attention to detail as it's done here. The production quality on this monster is top notch and definitely above average, as all instruments come across loud and clear and quite even, although there is a bit of added emphasis on both the guitars and vocals which seem to have been given an ever so slight boost in the overall mix. Víziók is a both a focused and unrestrained beast proving that Aetherius Obscuritas should definitely be considered a force to be reckoned with in the world of black metal.
