Fans of Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Sirenia, Trail of Tears, Echoes of Eternity, and After Forever would be well advised to check out the new band put together by guitarist/producer Waldemar Sorychta, he of Grip Inc. & Despair fame, who has also manned the control board for such acts as Lacuna Coil, Sentenced, Moonspell, Lacuna Coil, and Samael. Faith is the new album from Eyes of Eden, a CD that features plenty of sweeping symphonic keyboard arrangements, crushing guitar riffs, and the angelic voice of Franziska Huth, who really is a find, as her years of classical vocal training and live performances have fit right into this orchestral metal framework. The rest of the band is made up of bassist Alla Fedynitch and drummer Tom Diener, although drums on the album were played by Gas Lipstick (HIM).
You'll be instantly pulled in by the memorable melodies, metal riffs, and tasty keyboards on such tracks as "Pictures", "Star", and the unforgettable "Sleeping Minds". It's not often that a new band has really worked a formula like this and succeeded so mightily, but Eyes of Eden have certainly done that here. Huth's vocals are so pleasant to listen to, as her ethereal style floats around the mix with the keyboards while Sorychta's bombastic power chords and flashy solos adds plenty of metal muscle. There's also a good assortment of more sinister, heavy pieces, like "Daylight" and "Dancing Fire", as well as gothic/progressive tinged numbers "Winter Night", "Not Human Kind", and "Man in the Flame".
Overall, Faith is a real keeper and a great score for Century Media. Let's see if Eyes of Eden can bring themselves here to the US for a round of touring, as this style is very hot here at the moment and I'm sure they would be met with welcome arms.
