Litmus: Planetfall

You know you've got something good happening when a respected rock pioneer such as Julian Cope goes on record saying your band is "the biggest, baddest, best kept secret ever", which is exactly what he did when referring to the space rock sounds of fellow British countrymen Litmus. Sure this quartet's sound and general ethos may borrow heavily from established psychedelic heavyweights as Hawkwind and even early Motorhead, they also fall right in line with the sonic overload of newer acts Monster Magnet and Magnet spin off Atomic Bitchwax as well. Planetfall (the group's second effort) sounds like a band on a serious mission to scorch the earth via an absolutely unrelenting, savage guitar onslaught coupled with heavy doses of mind tripping, interplanetary keyboard work. This adds to the overall feeling of traveling through time and space perfectly. The epic tracks "Under The Sign" (15 mins) and "Expanding Universe :Twinstar pt2" (17 mins) are perfect examples of just how adept these guys are at stretching out, as they add layer upon layer to their sonic landscape.

Let's be honest, Litmus aren't exactly treading new ground musically, but if you're into any of the bands mentioned above then you'll definitely want to add Planetfall to your collection, because this one kicks one massive amount of you know what.
