Doro: All We Are-The Fight

Doro Pesch, our Queen Of Metal jumped into the ring for the glory of the music and her fans but it wasn't to lay the punches down on anyone, it was instead to rock the house like never before. As a tribute to her best friend, boxer Regina Halmich, the singer would actually perform her one of her biggest hits "All We Are" in the middle of a boxing ring in front of 19,000 screaming fans. The song was used as the intro music for the fighter who would go on to win a six round decision against a top German comedian in an exhibition match that the pair were participating in. Doro's band for this historic performance would be Ban Maas (After Forever's guitarist), Schmier (Destruction bassist) and drummer Tim Husung. After the live appearance the group would head to the studio to record their version for inclusion on this very special CD. The special aspect of it is that it is half audio CD and half video CD so after the listener has finished blasting the tunes out of their stereo they can then watch the videos on their PC. It's definitely one of those releases that's geared to the hard core Doro fan since she includes some material that hasn't been available for years. She delivers her personalized version of the Led Zeppelin classic "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" and while I am generally a bit stiff on covers of their songs I had to admit that she handled it quite well. The videos are half live performance clips and the rest of them are the official videos used to promote the tunes when the album came out. The video for "On My Own" features Krokus' Marc Storace while "You're My Family"'s rocking rendition comes from the Wacken Festival. I enjoyed the release since I have been a long time Doro fan and think she has held the banner of the genre up higher than many others. It seems that she appreciates her fans as much as they appreciate her. I think this would have been better if it was released as a DVD however, for that would have allowed for easier flipping between the audio and video tracks. Perhaps it was only me, but I put the CD in my player and found it only playing the audio numbers and when I wanted to see the videos I had to browse the disk and select them in that fashion in order to do so.

Doro: All We Are-The Fight

My Score:

Despite the fact that these of course are good songs, and the performances are top notch, it just seems like Doro is flooding the market lately with different versions of old material time and time again. For most die-hard fans this won't necessarily be a bad thing, as any release from the German Metal Goddess is always warmly received. This collection features 10 tracks in total, 5 audio and 5 video, and is somewhat of a rarities set for loyal fans. "All We Are" is a re-recording of the classic Warlock song with a special band that included Destruction bassist Schmier, After Forever guitarist Bas Maas, and popular studio drummer Tim Husung. Other cuts include the heavy rock piece "Thunderspell", the ballad "Everything's Lost", the melodic rocker "On My Own" (featuring a guest vocal from Marc Storace of Krokus), and a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You", as well as 5 video tracks.

For the casual fan this won't be of much interest, but if you've followed the legendary singer over the course of her career this will be something you will probably want to add to your collection.
