Fans of Gang of Four, The Flaming Lips, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, B-52's, and The Talking Heads, will find much to like here on the third release from Victory Records' Moros Eros. Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity contains nine tracks of music that ultimately is hard to classify-sure, there's plenty of hard rock muscle, a touch of emo, some hardcore, a dash of indie, splatterings of psychedelia, funk grooves, and plenty of new wave flavor. Sound interesting? For the most part it certainly is. Tracks like "Choices" and "Wake and Wait" contain loads of layered vocals, snappy guitar riffs, uplifting synthesizer blips, and tight grooves, while the more aggressive pieces like "Quit, You're Being Thoughtless", "Safety Net", and "Pride and Joy" harness a focus not unlike Rage Against the Machine or Radiohead's heavier material. Moros Eros manage to keep things pretty interesting throughout, and while nothing here borders on genius, you still have to give these guys credit for trying something different. There's somewhat of a late 60's vibe going on here that's quite refreshing, especially the twangly guitar lines and use of organ & other keyboard effects that almost could pass for Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, but they take element and house it within modern song formats.
Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity is definitely something to investigate if you are adventurous modern rock that offers up something off the beaten path from the norm.
