Winters: Black Clouds In Twin Galaxies

Winters are a doom / stoner rock outfit from the U.K. and Black Clouds In Twin Galaxies is their debut release on Candlelight Records. It's quickly evident that these guys definitely have no problem serving up heaping piles of sonic sludge in typical heavy doom fashion, but when you're treading down the path forged by doom pioneers Black Sabbath, Cathedral and the like, you better deliver the goods in spades. While the production and beefy mix is top notch, unfortunately Winters doesn't rise to the challenge at all here, instead offering 10 uninspired songs which all subscribe to the same tired formula. After about the fifth song the listener is left wondering if the band will ever shift gears, well it doesn't happen until the final song, the title track, which offers a brief glimmer of hope, but by then it's too little and way too late.
