Oklahoma's The Agony Scene now find themselves on Century Media Records with the release of their latest Get Damned, after short stints with Solid State as well as Roadrunner. These guys have shown a penchant for creating catchy, solid metalcore, featuring heavy riffs, tight instrumentation, and the husky shouts & screams of singer Michael Williams. While it's all well played and competent modern metal, you get the feeling after listening to Get Damned, and any of The Agony Scene's releases for that matter, that you've heard this all before. Sure, there's some tight grooves and neat guitar squeals on "Dances With Devils", and "Rapture" does a fine job of channeling some tasty Gothenburg styled death metal through monstrous rhythms and breakdowns, but it's hard to rate this too high when it sort of becomes blurred with all the Diecast's, Himsa's, and Black Dahlia Murder's of the world. End result is that Get Damned is a very listenable modern metal record, but rather interchangeable with much of The Agony Scene catalog, and countless other bands for that matter.
