Front Line Assembly: Monument (remaster)

Rising from the ashes of Skinny Puppy, Bill Leeb found himself working in tandem with another local musician from Vancouver, Canada named Michael Balch (later of Ministry) to form the pioneering Industrial/Electronic band Front Line Assembly in 1986.

Similar in sound and stature to Reclamation this composite of futuristic sounds known as Monument (1998) continues a trend by Bill Leer to refurbish old material, along side of some rare b-sides, making them more relevant and lasting through substantial electronic upgrades. Nary an organic instrument in sight, this music whips up a concoction that pulses and oozes with morbid delight, through an almost robotic-style syncopation. Songs build primarily off of basic rhythmic foundations, ultimately trying to become a part of everything you have ever seen, dreamt or touched. Sometimes succeeding… Other times, not so much. Fans of this legendary band will certainly rejoice the decision of Metal Mind to bring these recordings back out into existence so that one can gauge exactly how prodigious for their time these songs were. In the hands of more experienced techno aficionados, I will leave this plight.

This Metal Mind recording for 2007 is another fine example of the labels greater quality control in every aspect of the packaging detail. They must be commended for their efforts in every regard; bringing an elite catalog of reissues to the music collector.
