Polak, Milan: Straight

Ya know when you get THAT CD and you can't wait to play it all over again as soon as it ends? Or when you "discover" the newest "it" band or musician and you can't wait to spread the word? We've all been there, right?! Well, this ain't that CD! Lion Music, which has become the home of the Euro guitar Shredmeisters, has coughed up a dud with the Austrian born Milan Polak's Straight, featuring the awkwardly gay-ish looking cover for the aptly named CD.

Let me set the record, pardon the pun, straight. Polak is a good player. But good as in average, for a guitarist trying to make a wave in today's already overly saturated shred market. Unfortunately there is nothing awe inspiring or jaw dropping on this CD. Not to mention there is apparently no ability to write a decent song. That combined with a lackluster guitar performance, what would make someone pick this CD over another? Good question. I have no idea.

But as our mothers have told us, "if you have nothing good to say...", there are a few sprinkles of some shining bluesy soloing on Straight. But with titles like "Psychobitch" and lyrics like, "I'll be your hero if you just believe in me. I'll give you reason to live, for freedom to give what you need", you're expecting Bette Midler to start singing the wind beneath my wings or something. And this is being marketed as a Metal CD?!

Milan Polak's Straight is a 13 track CD that also features '80's NY bass player session legend, Randy Coven, but even he can't save this Titanic of a dud CD. Avoid this one, kiddies unless you just can't help staring at road kill.

My Score:

I think you will find this cd is actually be marketed as "hard rock" which is what it is and a very good slice at that! Safe to say that the reviewer didn't actually "get" this cd and had probably made up his mind about it before even reviewing it.

To give it a 1 star rating only goes to highlight the actual ineptness of some so called "reviewers" out there these days. SeaOfTranqulity I have come to expect better than this from you. Please get this cd into the hands of a reviewer that actually knows about classic/hard rock fan so an assessment can be made from someone who may actually have a passing interest in the genre of music this album is being marketed under.
