Edmonds, John: Burn Down The Sun

New Mexico's John Edmonds returns with a collection of songs recorded in the Rocky Mountains. (Talk about musicians getting high to work!) Regardless of where it was recorded, the record features seven plodding compositions, each of which could be trimmed to more stunning effect. Edmonds has a gravely, other worldly voice that wouldn't be out of place in, say, Agalloch, and the music beneath carries multiple classic progressive (Krimson) and world influences that are often interesting if not always overwhelming. "Sky Slumber," "History Of The World" and "Hideaway" each has a few interesting passages, while "Going Home" is the record's most gorgeous and easy to recommend track. Not for everyone.
