Caught this interesting black/death metal band from New York City open up for Immortal recently, and had a chance to quickly speak to them after their set, in which they promptly floated me a sampler copy of their demo CD. Inverted Prophecy shows some serious promise, and features, along with the usual raging guitar riffs and relentless blast beats, a double pronged vocal duo of female singer Ivana (who handles the death grunts) and bassist Ice (who delivers the black metal shrieks/growls). These two trade off during every song, making it almost impossible to pigeonhole these guys into one specific genre, as they flip flop from death to black to thrash and back to black again. Guitarists Possessed and Etherus weave plenty of intricate riffery and harmony lines, while drummer Yuri blasts away with plenty of fury and might. Most of the tracks here are lenghty and allow for extended instrumental workouts and riff pounding, and mixed with the grisly vocals makes for some kick ass extreme fare sure to draw interest from fans of the genre. It's hard to imagine Deimos being unsigned for long.
