Hibbets, Bill: Bricks And Trees

Nice singer-songwriter stuff from a pal of our old beloved Robert Fripp. With a wizened voice that recalls Mark Knopfler and a less sweet Steve Forbert, Hibbets charms listeners via tracks such as "Bleu" (easily the album's best), "Carnival" and the Latin-inflected "Whisper Screaming." With a sense of whimsy that calls to mind Harry Nilsson at his most coherent and career best, Hibbets displays that the art of songwriting is in good, good hands. At times difficult to penetrate in the sense that this is not a pop record, Bricks and Trees seems a perfect treat for the sophisticated palette.
