Rose Funeral: Crucify Kill Rot

Rose Funeral are a technical death-core band from Ohio, and Crucify Kill Rot is their debut for Candlelight Records. Fans of The Acacia Strain, The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, Between the Buried and Me, Necrophagist, and even Aborted, should get into the precision riffing, insane drum blasts, and murderous vocals that this band spews out. "Sledge Hammer Face Lift" is a perfect example of the brutality they are capable of, as this piece contains demonic death grunts, hardcore shouts, technical, almost Meshuggah-like riffs, and machine-gun drum work. As deadly as some of these songs are, the band throws in some nice guitar harmonies that offset the brutality and keep the listener coming back for more. In addition, there's even some atmosphere thrown in ("Intereo Diu" and "Dawning the Resurrection"), utilizing keyboards and lilting guitar chords, adding an almost progressive element to the mix. While the band does throw in some sweet dual guitar harmonies and riffing ("The Well", "Under a Godless Sky". And "External Regret" instantly come to mind), it would have been nice to hear some solos splashed into these songs, especially since it's obvious that a lot of their influence comes from old school Gothenburg melodic death metal bands like Dark Tranquility, In Flames, and At the Gates. The end result is an enjoyable extreme metal album that has a lot to offer, and probably only gives a glimpse that what might yet be to come from Rose Funeral.
