Hungarian Hardcore Band, Ektomorf, return with their latest CD entitled Outcast. Full of rage, power and anger, Outcast should please a lot of hardcore and metal fans.
Ektomorf's latest is a powerful sounding record that is steeped in energy and has a real South American feel to it, much like a Soulfly or Sepultura. But that is the problem here. While this is a good sounding record that is actually pretty tight rhythmically, it has all been done before. This record totally has that Soulfly, Brazilian feel, even though they hail from Hungary, which is quite interesting, it's just nothing new.
Sonically, Outcast is a punchy, in your face sounding record. The drums are the focal point of the mix, which also adds to that South American, percussion vibe. But is an overall good sounding CD, with 12 songs ranging from the already mentioned South American feel to an almost Middle Eastern, sitar used flavor. Lots of screaming hardcore vocals throughout this disc, leads to an uncompromised delivery. And in Metal theory, should be a good thing. But it's just an overdone thing here. There's nothing really memorable on this one, and with the short attention spans in today's music, that's a curse!
Outcast does provide times of some good grooving, but overall kind of misses the mark. This is for the die hard type of fan. Not bad, but not great either. Average at best.
