Take four musicians whose resumes include Riot (vocalist Tony Moore and guitarist Mike Flyntz), Queen+Paul Rodgers (bassist Danny Miranda), and Rainbow and Meat Loaf (drummer John Miceli), give 'em four years to write and record a debut record together, push play and prepare to rock. Hard. Accelerator kicks it with style, class and intelligence – not to mention a trends-be-damned chip on its shoulder – effortlessly fusing classic metal, arena rock and modern production. Despite the band's Christian-rock-like name, Faith and Fire is more likely to take swipes at political leaders, including a certain president of the United States ("Ready"); the commercial airwaves ("Radio Superstar"); and even religious fanatics ("Fallen") than praise Jesus. Moore's voice fits tightly with this material, and Flyntz's playing is aggressive and melodic without overreaching. Signed to a distribution deal with Europe's AOR Heaven, Faith and Fire is yet another example of a U.S. band forced to rely on an overseas label to get its music heard. Thank God for CD Baby!
