You may remember Lisa Bouchelle from some of the Magna Carta-related recordings she did a few years back or from her more recent warblings with Mastermind. Get
this, though, sparky: Paint Your Dreams a prog record ain't. The blonde air-basher gives us a pretty straight up pop record that demonstrates her powerful
ability as a vocalist even if it does come across as a little safe. When she's at her best, such as on "A Kiss Is Worth A 1,000 Words" and "The Way You Look At Me," Bouchelle's a true mistress of song, an original-sounding powerhouse who emotes as much as she
showboats. And while the sentiments expressed in both tracks are nothing new, she manages to make them feel that way with her unique vocal expression and phrasing. Others prove less inspired: her take on Bruce Springsteen's "Spirit In The Night" comes off more like Jewel than Bouchelle, and although well-written, "Insane," ""Holding On To Air," "Bebe Blues" and the daftly-titled "Ya Huh!" do little to distinguish this artist from the legions of other chick rockers soaking up stools in coffee houses and smoke-filled sandwich bars from here to Sturgeon Bay.
