Celebrating the 21st Anniversary of the MetalMania Festival, held in Poland, comes Metal Mind's DVD/CD set commemorating the music from the 2006 weekend. On the DVD you get a few performances from most of the main stage bands, and there is a bonus CD which contains one song each from some of the lesser known bands who played on the second stage. If you've checked out any of the previous MetalMania sets, you'll know that these are well put together, featuring plenty of content documenting the festivities.
There's a host of acts on the DVD, the most notable being three songs from black metal lords 1349, who really seemed on top of their game at this gig, all decked up in corpse paint and spikes, rampaging along furiously. Nevermore were also there, and they too are represented by three tracks, and you can tell they are really whipping the crowd up into a frenzy. Moonspell and Anathema are also given plenty of time here, both bands no strangers to Poland over the years and given rousing receptions. Rounding out the set are a few tunes from Sweden's Therion, who offer up plenty of excitement with two songs full of symphonic & progressive metallic bliss. Look carefully and you'll see Sarah Jeezebel Diva from Cradle of Filth on backing vocals here among the host of singers the band brought along with them to recreate their huge wall of vocal sound. The companion CD features a tune each from some of the second stage bands. You might not recognize most of them, but two diamonds in the rough are a track each by Belphegor and Centinex, two fairly well known extreme bands, the latter unfortunately disbanding recently. Overall this is a nice package-you could argue all day about whether some of the bands featured here deserve more or less coverage in the set, but it's a nice overview of what looks like a fun metal festival.
