Diskreet: Infernal Rise

It would be hard to pick a word to describe the debut EP by Kansas' Diskreet. Brutal, technical, unorthodox and interesting would all work; but none would be sufficient on its own. Diskreet bring a lot to the table and lay it out very nicely. Maybe "nicely" isn't a good word, "savagely" may be better, and that's a good thing. These guys have a unique style that brings together different elements and blends them very well together. It's like Grindcore and Tech/Grind, with plenty of good old American Death Metal influence. A lot of bands try this type of formula for the sake of not being pigeonholed, or to be different, and it just doesn't work. Diskreet makes it work very well for them. The song structures at times are a bit unorthodox but always continue to flow smoothly with ever pummeling drum beats. For all the heaviness and brutality there is an underlying groove here that keeps you sucked in and the head banging. Fans of Extreme Metal in general will find Infernal Rise an excellent beginning from these newcomers.
