The Handshake Murders: Usurper

The Handshake Murders are a quintet hailing from Arkansas who brings their brutal metalcore assault to the table big time on their latest CD entitled Usurper. All the necessary ingredients appear to be included on this disc; they've got some pretty decent guitar riffs, a juggernaut of a rhythm section and a vocalist who's got the lower register of his death metal style delivery down pat. The unfortunate thing is the music itself is all presented at much the same tempo and it's really difficult to tell where one song ends and another begins so things get really derivative very quickly. As far as talent goes The Handshake Murders have got it, however they don't really offer anything new or original and as a result Usurper comes off as being merely average. The one saving grace is that by clocking in at just over 30 minutes, it's over before you can complain too much.
