Engine of Pain: I Am Your Enemy

The Netherlands own, Engine of Pain, have released their latest CD, I Am Your Enemy (Lion Music) and with it are trying to bring back a taste of the old school Thrash of Testament and Exodus. Problem is, they fall way short with their efforts.

The self titled track, "I Am Your Enemy" kicks off with the CD and it shows what is to come-a very stale and predictable record. Trying to be a Power Metal band like a Pantera, but coming out sounding like Testament is part of their problem. I loved the late '80's and early '90's Metal, but this is not in the class with the greats of that era. It is an obvious attempt at capturing that sound and feel, but no cigar! While trying to be intense and intricate, Engine of Pain falls way short of that goal.

I Am Your Enemy is a quick paced, 10 track CD, clocking in at just over 30 minutes, so the boredom is short lived. This release just has no substance and will leave you looking for another CD to listen to very quickly.
