This six song EP from New York's The Orphans is a pleasant mix of pop, hard rock, and a touch of modern gothic, that might remind listeners of bands such as The Gathering, Muse, Radiohead, and Blondie. The breezy vocals and tender keyboard work of Genia is the star of the show, as she soars through such tracks as the progressive pop of "Time's Up" and the melancholy "Without You". On some of the more rocking pieces, like "Killed My Man" and "I Won't Be Yours", guitarist Mike lays down some hard rock muscle, but overall this is pretty moody stuff that dips into the gothic, prog, and pop realms but never really sticking around for a full round with any of them. The Orphans definitely have a unique sound, now let's see if they can capitalize on it and get the word out.
