Germany's Deadsoil have returned with their highly anticipated sophomore release on Lifeforce Records called Sacrifice. The band which is a quintet haven't been around all that long (the band was formed in 2002) however in a relatively short period of time they have managed to attract the attention of fellow musicians such as Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta who went public with praise for the band. Deadsoil's potent mix of hardcore and metal, while not what I would classify as totally original in this genre, does prove to be an extremely satisfying and varied listening experience. Vocalist Friedrich Weber alternates effectively between hardcore style yells and screams and more melodic passages in which he opens up his voice delivering some excellent, clean singing. The twin guitar tandem of Boris Pracht and Jens Basten serve up massive amounts of tasty, chugging rhythms and a surprising amount of well thought out, melodic leads. The band is anchored by the meaty, low-end duo of bassist Andreas Schuessier and drummer Christian Bass, who provides a fantastic attack behind the kit. All in all Sacrifice is a fine example of how to successfully blend the aggression of hardcore and metal without forgetting one key ingredient in music, melody.
