Bleed In Vain: Say Everything Will Be Fine

Of Unicorn Digital's first two forays into heavy metal via its new VSR Series, Bleed In Vain's Say Everything Will Be Fine is less likely to find an audience with Unicorn's typical progressive-music fans than Unerase's Own Universe. While both records are potent and heavy as hell, Unerase makes music that's a little more accessible. On the other hand, Bleed In Vain's metalcore roots lie in melodic death metal. The band's melodic side pierces through the chaos of Say Everything Will Be Fine on several of the album's 13 tracks, marked by robust and razor-sharp progressive instrumentation. Unfortunately, Enrico Longhin's choked vocals are distracting, except when he's doing his best impression of Evergrey's Tom S. Englund, as on "H-Filter." The album becomes more tolerable with each listen, though, and by the time you've heard the melodic monsters "Shock to the System" and "Few Miles Away" multiple times, you'll realize that this Italian band has the power to — just like its labelmate Unerase — appeal to a wide array of metalheads.

(In case you're wondering, Bleed In Vain was originally known as This Illusion. But when another band chose as its moniker Disillusion, this quintet thought the similarities were too close for comfort. Hence the new band name, which is similar to nothing.)
