The Scorpions last studio album with guitar wizard Uli John Roth (or Ulrich as he was known as back then) is finally out on CD from Germany's Breeze Music. Including a full lyric sheet, a GREAT live shot of the band, and a few bonus tracks, this low-priced reissue is a must for all dedicated Scorpions fans.
Who can forget the killer tunes "The Sails of Charon" (one of Roth's best guitar licks ever), the super charged "Steamrock Fever", or the raucus "He's a Woman, She's a Man." There are even a few melodic ballads here, such as "Born to Touch Your Feelings" and "Your Light", which give great variety to the otherwise heavy metal meets Jimi Hendrix guitar tones that run rampant throughout the CD. Roth is obviously the star, as his style of wild arpeggios, whammy bar theatrics, and wah-wah laced Hendrixy solos influenced a multitude of todays guitar players. Sure, the band had yet to catch on to the melodic, commercial metal formula yet, but this line-up was great at producing good, raw hard rock with a European flair.
As for the bonus cuts, they are "Suspender Love" and the live version of "Polar Nights", both which are available elsewhere, but added here to take up space. Still, it's good to finally have this CD available for all to fill in the gap in their Roth-era Scorpions collection.
