What a pleasant surprise, and just in time for the holidays comes this inspiring collection of Christmas favorites from the California Guitar Trio. Previously available as an exclusive fan club release, Inside Out Music has now packaged A Christmas Album just in time to be played while setting up the Christmas tree, decorating the house, and preparing those wonderful holiday meals.
Hideyo Moriya, Paul Richards, and Bert Lams are all accomplished acoustic guitar players with great technical skill, but in this setting their playing relies more on warmth and textures than flash and dazzle. The trio's take on classics such as "Greensleeves", "Carol of the Bells", "Jingle Bells" and "Silent Night" give the listener that warm fuzzy feeling, rekindling all those wonderful holiday memories.With the exception of a few guest saxophone players, the multi-layered guitar sounds of the trio are in full force, a crystalline tapestry of sheer beauty that can be appreciated by everyone, not just the progressive rock listener.
One other highlight to mention is the inclusion of the John Lennon hit "Happy XMas (War is Over)", a song which you may not have heard in a while, but gets a great treatment here by three special musicians who thankfully took some time away from recording their usual brand of intricate acoustic prog rock to bring us some holiday cheer.
