Thrash Ratchet: Big Boss is Pissed

Hailing from Poughkeepsie, New York, Thrash Ratchet play a late 90's styled thrash metal mixed with some hardcore influences. Big Boss is Pissed has its moments, like the Motorhead influenced "Killstunt Kommando", and the brutal riffing of "Fight", but all too often the songs are soiled by weak lyrics and the one-dimensional vocals of C. Hernandez (who has since left the band). The guitar work of Johnny "Blackout" Healy is crunchy and provides plenty of memorable riffs (check out his pounding attack on "Just a Beating"), while the rhythm team of PW Ratchet on drums and bassist L. Miller Lite do an admirable job delivering the groove. Word is Thrash Ratchet are working on new material, so hopefully they will take some of the raw talent that is evident here and expand on it.

My Score:

I have had the good fortune of seeing Thrash Ratchet live at various venues in the NY Hudson Valley region, and I agree totally that they are a band best experienced live. While the CD is a good, solid representation of who the band is, or should I say was, since as the review mentioned there have been personnel changes, this band cooks live, and never lets its evergrowing fan base down.

I have attended gigs, where nationally recognized acts haven't received the enthusiastic feedback from the audience that T Rat does.

If you wanna see some kick ass rock and roll the way the godz intended it to be played, go see Thrash Ratchet. If that's not possible, then pick up one, if not all, of their CDs.

My Score:

well.theres thrashratchet.com for a band only having one guitarist, they arent bad.some bands that have 2-3 guitarist, and dont play any leads.THRASH RATCHET is a very explosive band.they only play original material.i guess it depends on your type of taste in metal what your going to think about the songs.

My Score:

Yeah, I know what you mean. I agree with you.
I know the band and like their stuff. I have seen them play many times and can honestly say their songs sound so much better live. The CD sounds great but kind of like you said, the singer is sort of an aquired taste. The riffs are great and I have to contest the comment about the words. I think the words go well with the music and keep a root theme, which I like.
I have seen them play since their singer left and have heard their new stuff and it is a step in the right direction for them.
I can't wait for their new album. I think it will put them on the map.
