Imagine if you will a mix of Reverend Horton Heat, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Rocket From the Crypt, Boris, and Loudness-sounds strange right? Well, the US self-titled debut from Rodeo Carburettor sort of combines many of those influences into a sound that can best be described as power trio alternative punk. Filled with explosive guitar work, raw drums, and aggressive vocals (sung in Japanese), this is a non-stop and manic adventure for those who can look past the non-English vocals and enjoy this for the sheer energy that the music entails. Production wise, this is very raw stuff, and the vocals of Takeshi Kaji sound pretty well buried in the mix, but his guitar work is very impressive as he blasts away with no shortage of power riffs and tasty solos. Overall, this is an interesting listen but nothing memorable, and I think Rodeo Carburettor will have to consider recording their next album in English if they want to make more of an impact.
