Diecast: Internal Revolution

Taking more than a few cues from Killswitch Engage, Diecast return with their latest metalcore platter on Century Media titled Internal Revolution. Featuring both screaming and melodic clean vocals from Paul Stoddard, crunchy guitar work courtesy of Jon Kita & Kirk Kolaitis, and the pounding rhythm section of drummer Dennis Pavia and bassist Brad Horion, Diecast have a very appealing sound, if not one you would swear you have heard before. While the music of Internal Revolution breaks no new ground, it's hard not to get pulled in by songs like "Hourglass", which has some really terrific clean vocals from Stoddard, or the melodic metal of the title track. Elsewhere, there's raging Hatebreed styled mayhem on tunes like "Weakness", complete with manical screams and blistering drum work, and the intricate yet brutal "Out of Reach". Kita and Kolaitis pull off some impressive lead & rhythm work on the slower, more grinding metal attack of "S.O.S.", one of the CD's better tunes, which also has a very powerful vocal from Stoddard in the scream mode. He switches back nicely to melodic clean vocals on the catchy "Nothing I Could Say", an emo-metal piece that could easily find a home on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.

Overall, this a decent if slightly unremarkable album from Diecast. It's well played, well produced, but the problem is we've heard this all before. If you like Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, Shadows Fall, Chimaira, Unearth, and the countless other metalcore bands out there, then Internal Revolution will totally be up your alley.
