Tuff Jeff Salen: The Endless Road

NYC blues guitarist, Tuff Jeff Salen, releases his first solo CD, The Endless Road on Fountainbleu Music. Tuff Jeff has been in and around the NYC scene for decades now, and unfortunately it shows how tired he must be with this release.

Still hanging on to the '70's self penned song "All for the love of Rock 'n' Roll", which starts off this CD, Salen does very little to show anything new or remotely interesting on this release. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE '70's fan, but this CD is just lacking of substance. The vocals, also done by Salen, are at best reminiscent of a Lou Reed, which is a very acquired taste. The songwriting on this CD leaves a lot to be desired as well. Now being that Tuff Jeff Salen is supposed to be known for his blues guitar playing, it is weird how the guitar playing on this record is so weak. Almost non existent.

The Endless Road is a pop record more so than a blues record, for sure. But, there are no songs on here that will stick in your head or that will make you want to hum along. Isn't that what a good pop song is all about? Tuff Jeff Salen's The Endless Road is very much just that. A boring trip down a very endless road that you hope will be over very soon. There is nothing "tuff" about this CD.
