Don't let the symphonic keyboards at the outset of Impressions in Blood fool you. This is one brutal death metal album folks, as only Vader know how to produce. If you dug their albums Litany, Revelation, The Beast, or the recent EP The Art of War, you will not be dissapointed one bit with their latest platter. Heavy as hell, technical, and insanely fast, Impressions in Blood might just be Vader's answer to Slayer's Reign in Blood.
Whether the Polish titan's bludgeon you over the head with savage and speedy death metal as they do so well on tracks like "Shadowsfear", "As Heavens Collide", and "Helleluyah (God is Dead)", or get down and dirty with some merciless and evil doom riffs like on "Predator", they pull the listener in by the juggular and never let go. A song like "Warlords" is filled with manic guitar riffs from Mauser and Peter (as well as a ripping guitar solo) plus insane blast beats from drummer Daray, who has busy bassist Novy right by his side delivering brutally fast bass grooves. "Amongst the Ruins" is one of those songs that starts out in a frenzy, but check out that amazing middle section with some slower riffs and a wonderfully tasty guitar solo. Then again, there's the closing gem "The Book", complete with symphonic keyboards, technical guitar harmonies, and some of the most crunchy guitar riffs you will hear all year. Peter's monstrous death vocals are some of the best in the business, and he really shines on this one.
This is just a monster death metal album all around. Vader has been around for quite a few years now, but they keep raising the bar time after time. Impressions in Blood is all killer, no filler- check it out.
