Cavalar: As a Metal of Fact

As a Metal of Fact is the debut album from Brazil's Cavalar, a four-piece hard rock/metal band who push all the right buttons when it comes to 70's and 80's inspired heavy music. Yes, the band is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, so let's get that out in front first. Many of the songs here could have easily come from Masters of Reality or Volume 4 era Sabbath, from the riffs, to the vocals, to the pounding rhythms. However, Cavalar inject a modern doom feel into the songs by having each track come across as highly focused and never meandering, complete with plenty of shred guitar solos for good measure. Lead singer Twitch sounds very much like a young Ozzy, but he also can hit some Ian Gillan inspired screams, like he does so well on the crankin' rock of "Us", a song that also features a killer guitar riff. In fact, speaking of riffs, there's no shortage of kick ass, memorable riffs here, especially on songs like "Rush", "Deadman", "New Empire", the sizzling "V-Red", and the grinding 'Can the World Be Wrong", all courtesy of Tadeu Dias, a very talented guitar player who will easily appeal to fans of Zakk Wylde and Tony Iommi.

So, classic Sabbath fans, rejoice at the wonderful sounds of As a Metal of Fact, an album that is as good as recent releases from peers like Down, Crowbar, Corrosion of Conformity, and Witchcraft. Oh yeah, there's also a killer version of Sabbath's "Hole In the Sky" here as well. Check it out.
