Terror 2000: Terror for Sale

Ever wonder what Soilwork would sound like if they turned into a full-fledged thrash band? Well look no further than lead singer Bjorn "Speed" Strid's side project Terror 2000. The band has actually been around since the late 1990's and this is their third studio album in addition to a live release. In addition to Speed, the band consists of Klas Ideberg (Darkane) and Nick Sward (El Mago) on guitars, Erik Thyselius (Constructdead) on drums, and bass player Dan Svensson (Hatelight), forming a solid line-up of veterans on the Swedish metal scene.

Fans of Soilwork will be a little surprised at the over the top vocal performance of Speed on Terror for Sale, as he hits one maniacal moment after another, almost like Devin Townsend at times. Songs like "King Kong Song" and "Metal Mosh Massacre" have hilarious lyrics to go along with Speed's insane vocals and plenty of bludgeoning guitar riffs. In fact, there's no letting up here whatsover, as each song is like a runaway train just waiting to lay to waste everything in its path. Guitarists Idleberg and Sward really put their chops together well, as they weave intricate frameworks around each other that includes wild lead fills and bone crunching riffs.

Lyrically, like I mentioned before, this album's a hoot. I mean, with song titles like "Wrath of the Cookie Monster", "Liquor Saved Me From Sports", and "Mummy Metal For the Masses", you can imagine that these guys don't take themselves too seriously and just want to have fun here, which is exactly how Terror For Sale comes across despite its obvious brutal approach. Much like Strapping Young Lad, Terror 2000 bludgeons and entertains all at the same time. Metal can't always be so serious now can it?
