Polish band Lizard has released its seventh CD Spam. The six tracks (Spam 1 – Spam 6) are all in Polish, not the most melodic language. But vocals aside, Lizard knows how to jam. Reminding me of a male fronted Wild Colonials, they mix violins with keyboards to create mood around the solid rhythm section. Damian Bydlinski's guitar work fits perfectly, although a touch subdued.
Spam, although made up of six like-named songs, does have a nice diverse style. "Spam #1" has many elements of Alias Eye, where as "Spam #2" has a little more crunch to it, sounding a little like Knight Area. "Spam 3", at 5:59, is the shortest song and the least developed. "Spam 4" is by far my favorite song, mixing a little Man On Fire with Wild Colonials.
Overall a CD I would have enjoyed much more in English. I own many foreign language CDs, with Trettioåriga Kriget being one of my favorite bands of all time, but the inflection and tone of Bydlinski make the vocal parts a little distracting for me. This is a great set of progressive jams, with excellent musicians. Highly recommend for anyone who can get past he polish lyrics.
