Mord: Christendom Perished

Lock up the women and children folks, as Mord's debut platter of Satanic imagery and black metal might sweeps into town for a grotesque night of violence, destruction, and pillaging, sure to cause rapturous delight with fans of Carpathian Forest, Marduk, Gorgoroth, 1349, Immortal, or Darkthrone. Christendom Perished is sheer brutality through and through-there's nothing symphonic or progressive here, so don't go expecting anything like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Band mastermind Nordra (who handles guitars, bass, and vocals) and drummer Necrolucas spew forth eight tracks of savage traditional sounding black metal littered with Satantic death metal lyrical content and plenty of evil vocals, sledgehammer guitar riffs, and blitzkrieg drum work. While old school fans will certainly dig the intense brutality here, I'm guessing that some who have grown accustomed to the more sophisticated sounds of much of today's black metal might find the lack of variety on Christendom Perished a bit unsettling and monotonous at times. It's not until "Opus IX" that the band throws any curveballs at the listener, as during this tune you get some almost doomy riffs, technical lead harmonies, and maniacal drum freakouts that rise above the normal blast beats. Overall this is some frightening stuff, but after repeated listens wears a little thin. Still, the hardcore black metal fans will find plenty to like I'm sure.
