Facedowninshit: NPON (Nothing Positive, Only Negative)

There's nothing pretty about NPON (Nothing Positive, Only Negative) from North Carolina's Facedowninshit. This is rude, crude, dirty, sludge-ridden music that combines hardcore, punk, doom, and metal. There's nothing remotely unique about the bands music, as many of the riffs and the overall attitude recall Eyehategod, The Melvins, and very early Corrosion of Conformity. While much of the album is pretty solid yet by-the-numbers hardcore, the relentless feedback drenched "Fucked" won me over with some brutal guitar riffs and plenty of chilling atmosphere towards the second half of the piece, which led into the dark and gloomy doom riffing of "Rough Sleep". For my money, Facedowninshit are better as a doom band than the punk/hardcore style that they regularly employ, but maybe that's just me. Either way, the album's worth a listen for fans of this kind of thing, but in the end I just felt like the bands moniker, face down in shit.
