Another Korpiklaani album, another rousing good time of metal and Finnish folk. Tales Along This Road, the bands third release, sees Korpiklaani once again creating metal music that is so much fun, so easy to dance and chug your beer to, that the moment the first few notes of "Happy Little Boozer" kick in, you immediately start to jumo and up and dance a Finnish jig along with the rollicking guitars, accordions, and multitude of vocal layers. Plain and simple folks, this is music like you have never heard before, so full of life and meant to be played at gatherings where wine, women, and song are the name of the game. Violins, harmonica, flutes, and accordion accompany the traditional metal instruments like guitars, bass, and drums, and the lead vocals are very addicting, more in a upbeat folk style than normal metal screams, regardless of the language the band is singing in. Yes, that's right, you get songs in English here as well as the native Finnish tongue, but either way, expect to be jumping out of your seat before long. There are ten tracks on the CD, and it's one winner after another, whether it be the raging drink fest of 'Vakirauta" or the driving folk metal tunes "Midsummer Night" and "Spring Dance", this is one party tune after another. If you want to hear what more tradional acoustic Finnish folk sounds like, check out "Under the Sun", while "Korpiklaani" gets you raising your fist in the air but wondering if you are in Middle Earth or your own dwelling.
This is really fun stuff. My suggestion to Napalm Records-promote this band to the moon, as I'm sure many fans of other genres besides metal will love this stuff.
