It's not the holidays, and I'm not Jewish. But yet I'm groovin' and chillin' to this eclectic collection of holiday classics right now – in mid-March. The Hanukkah Lounge, a mostly instrumental record of traditional and original Jewish material, will appeal to listeners who prefer their music smooth, with a touch of electronic jazz. Produced by Craig Taubman, whose credits include work for HBO, PBS and Disney, the disc can be played any time you're in the mood for haunting female vocals you can't decipher (Yuval Ron's "Sura"), a righteous African-American take on Jewish music (The Afro-Semitic Experience's "Descarga Ocho Kandelikas") or cultural music from a former touring guitarist for Alice in Chains (James Fuchs' "Oy Chanukah"). I don't claim to understand what this is all about, but the fact that I'm still diggin' it only proves that this kind of music transcends religious boundaries.
