Candlelight Records and Spinefarm deliver the goods with the sophomore release from Finland's Amoral, titled Decrowning. Filled with loads of tasty, technical, and crunchy riffs, throaty vocal growls, and stampeding rhythms, Decrowning is a supercharged and fun ride from start to finish. From the manic opener "Showdown", with its shuffling riffs and sledgehammer drum blasts, to tunes like the aggressive death metal of "Lacrimal Gland", the melodic and progressive "Tiebraker", to the ultra-complex breakdowns of "Drug of Choice", Amoral manage to keep the listener at the edge of their seat throughout Decrowning. There's also plenty of groove here, as easily heard on "Denial 101", a song that has all the attitude of Nevermore and technical know-how of Children of Bodom. Proving that the band can show some restraint, there's also a tasty and sophisticated instrumental called "Warp", which then segues into the brutal and galloping death metal romp of "Bleeder", which closes out the CD on a high note.
Decrowning is a solid release all around, and while not necessarily groundbreaking, it still hits on all levels and delivers the goods. If you like your death metal melodic, technical, and with a touch of progressive sophistication and experimentation, definitely check this one out.
