Amped (Candlelight USA) is the new release from the East Coast's own, Seven Witches. This CD is steeped in early '80's Metal tradition. Amped contains 9 tracks and features new vocalist, Alan Tecchio. At 1st listen, Tecchio reminds me of a cross between The Tyrant of Jag Panzer & a Ripper Owens "lite". With a screaming falsetto delivery on a lot of the songs, the "hey day" of '80's Metal is relived.
Tecchio does shine on tracks like, "Sunnydale High" and guitarist, Jack Frost, does his best to wrestle his guitar into a Euro "Made in the USA" Metal Mode being perfected by the likes of Iced earth & Killswitch Engaged. "Fame Gets You Off" is a heavy romper of a tune, with Frost's heavy chorused guitar being shoved in your face. Fans of Old School Metal might want a closer look.
On the down side, Seven Wishes decided on including the cover of the Billy Idol classic "Flesh For Fantasy". I'll give them an "A" for effort, but Jack Frost IS NO Steve Stevens and this track was better off left for a live shows only. It just doesn't flow with the traditional Metal that Amped is trying for. Just making this song "heavier" totally misses the mark!
Overall, Metal heads looking for a bit of the past wrapped into a sort of not so shiny new package won't be too disappointed by this release. Amped is no Metal groundbreaker, but a decent release.
