After the quick orchestrated opening instrumental "Para Bellum", which segues into the rampaging "This is the War", there's no doubt that Polish death metal juggernauts Vader are back with a vengeance. Not that they ever really left mind you, but The Art of War is merely meant as a teaser for their next full length CD which should hopefully be out later this year. You see, Vader have one of the most loyal fanbases in all of metal, and with all the other powerful extreme bands on the scene, the band want to keep it that way and make sure that a pretty constant flow of new music gets into the public's hands. This quick and brutal offering is Vader at their most uncompromising, displaying a maturity that I think their legions of fans will quickly pick up on, but sacrificing none of their technical brilliance or supercharged ferocity. Other tracks like "Lead Us!!!" and "Banners On the Wind" feature superhuman guitar riffs from Peter and Mauser, Daray's blistering drums, and Peter's monstrous vocals. When it comes to all out brutality and aggression, none play the kind of death metal meets thrash like Vader, save for perhaps Slayer. If you are familiar with the band, you will know that they generally record songs that are pretty short, and The Act of War is no exception. Six tracks, roughly 15 minutes of music, that goes by all too quickly. By the time that the carnage of the song "Death in Silence" has subsided, you'll be all too inclined to hit the replay button and start counting the seconds till the next full length album gets released.
